“If you had two minutes to tell world leaders what kind of future you want, what would you say?”
The Global Campaign for Climate Action’s TckTckTck campaign, Climate Nexus and NRDC have teamed up to sponsor “Win a Date with History.” The contest encourages young people to submit a two-minute video speech expressing their vision for a sustainable future. The winner will deliver his/her message in person to leaders at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (aka the Rio+20 Earth Summit) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012. Runners-up will be featured on participating partners’ websites and in campaign materials at the summit.
“Win a Date with History” is inspired by Severn Suzuki’s speech at the 1992 Earth Summit, where, as a 12 year old, she declared the need for better environmental protections, poverty eradication, and sustainability. (Severn will also be helping to select the winning entry as a member of the contest’s jury.) The sponsors of the competition aim to once again share the power of young peoples’ voices with Rio+20 conference leaders to inspire action on climate change and sustainability. Contest organizers will also be producing a “behind-the-scenes” documentary of the winner’s summit address.
