Union of Concerned Scientists: “Save our Coffee”

UCS to President Obama: “Wake up and smell the coffee.”

Climate change is a complex and often overwhelming issue. It can be difficult to convey the current impacts and future risks that rising temperatures pose to our everyday lives. The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) emphasizes this personal connection by appealing to coffee lovers in its new “Save our Coffee” campaign. UCS highlights how climate change is threatening coffee crops (and subsequently raising prices) as pests, drought, and deluges become more frequent.

The campaign’s short video features “mug shots” of coffee drinkers calling for climate action. The campaign encourages supporters to tell President Obama (by sending an online message and posting to the White House Facebook page) that it’s time to “wake up and smell the coffee” and ensure strong carbon emission standards to protect our health, our environment…and our coffee.
